CHAIRMAN’S REPORT JANUARY 2010
On behalf of the Management Committee, may I wish all players ,Club officials and referees a HAPPY NEW YEAR.
As we reach the turn of the year, it will be no surprise to you that the main theme of my report is the weather.
I cannot ,in all the years I have been involved in football, remember a more challenging first half to a season ,with the loss of so many Saturday programmes ,initially due to heavy rainfall ,then exacerbated by a visit from that most infrequent visitor to our normally mild climate ,snow.
We are a well-organised League ,and if all goes well for the remainder of the season ,we will complete our fixtures, but I would ask all our Clubs to give absolute support to our esteemed Fixtures Secretary ,Ernie Coleman. He may have at times to change fixtures, and I know I can count on you to work with him.
Time, I think ,to congratulate Alex Savage on his on-going work bringing to life the rich past of our League. Do have a look at the History section of our web site, Alex has spent a great deal of time producing League tables right from the early days of the League through to modern times. It’s a labour of love, but one well worth doing If ,like me, you are interested in the long history of our League, there is a veritable plethora of information. Alex still has much to do ,and will be moving on soon to look at the Cup competitions. Eventually we have a comprehensive record spanning over a century .
Finally, let me re-inforce the message we gave you about identity cards. We are the envy of many Leagues for our ground-breaking approach ,please ensure you have all your cards available for inspection .Remember the edict- NO CARD= NO PLAY
